The Queen’s Gambit

Okay, not exactly middle school material, but I’ve got to get my fill of historical fiction…especially ol’ King Henry VIII.  I’ve read many books of this era and loved them all.  This one kept me going to the end (that doesn’t always happen in other genres) and of course, researching some of the facts as I went along.  I never realized that Katherine (spelled with a “K” in this book) wrote lamentations and other works for publication.  If you’re interested, I’ve linked them below.  Anyway, definitely a book for the adults–the love scenes depict a little “rough love.”

In Memory

December 26th I had to put my precious Abbeygirl to rest. She probably suffered a stroke on Christmas day… I saw it happen and was there for her. We slept downstairs that night with her because she could no longer walk. In the morning we made one of the most difficult decisions we have ever made. Our hearts are still broken.

This was one of the last photos taken of her. We were hiding in the car because they were trimming baseboards in the house and the smoke alarm kept going off. She hated the smoke alarm.

A New Beginning

For the second time in 6 years we have found myself starting over in a new house, a new city, and a new state. Both moves have been to be near family, and this time the whole family is together, so we know we got it right. And if feels right–Bob is getting his mind off his medical issues and I am getting the emotional support I need. Our kids and their fams rock! What a blessing seeing your children grow and begin to raise their own children, both differently, but both beautifully. We couldn’t be happier to be here, all together again.

I haven’t gotten a teaching position yet, but I know it will come.  Redmond School District is one of the best in the state and it is not easy getting in.  Plus, it is the middle of the year and nobody knows me.  Hopefully that will change soon.

In the meantime, I have been filling my time with sewing and quilting.  Here is one of my newest creations:

my first--quilting yet to come!
